Bruce A. R<\/span>amsey (bram411@outlook.com) is a Washington writer and researcher retired from a 37-year career in journalism in Seattle and Hong Kong.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He was\u00a0<\/span>born in Seattle and grew up in Edmonds along Puget Sound. He\u00a0<\/span>graduated<\/span>\u00a0from the University of Washington with a degree in business and did graduate work in journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. He began his career in 1976 as the business and real estate reporter at the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Bellevue Journal-American. <\/i>He<\/span>\u00a0<\/i>was a reporter at<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Marple\u2019s Business Newsletter\u00a0<\/i>and a business reporter and columnist at the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Seattle Post-Intelligencer.\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>In 1989 he moved to Asia for four years as a senior writer at<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Asiaweek\u00a0<\/i>magazine. He returned to the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Seattle Post-Intelligencer\u00a0<\/i>in 1993, and in 2000 joined the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Seattle Times\u00a0<\/i>as a columnist and member of the editorial board.<\/span> He retired from the Times<\/em> in December 2013.<\/span><\/p>

For his\u00a0Post-Intelligencer<\/i>\u00a0series on the 1982 failure of the Seattle-First National Bank he won the Champion-Tuck Award for Economic Understanding, and in the year of his retirement, 2013, he received the Sigma Delta Chi award for editorial writing.<\/p>

During his newspaper years, Ramsey edited four volumes of the works of the<\/span>\u00a020th century financial journalist Garet Garrett and wrote a biography of Garrett,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Unsanctioned Voice<\/i>, all published by the Caxton Press. Since his retirement he has written<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The Panic of 1893 <\/i>(Caxton, 2018) and Seattle in the Great Depression <\/em>(WSU Press, 2025).\u00a0<\/p>

Ramsey lives in Seattle with his wife, Anne, a former Citibanker.
